A Danish Land Rover 90 Restoration project

Restoration of another Land Rover 90
Just arrived for a make-over restoration. This LR 90 from Denmark (parked next to Fred Dibnah's restored S11), shows just how differently this vehicle has evolved, yet still retaining so much. The same Land Rover Character!
Although not in too poor condition, the Danish roads had taken their toll on the bodywork and, as with all V8s, there is some marked improvement in line for its Power, Efficiency & Economy, to exceed the expectations of even the most sceptical V8 owner.

It is easy to see the changes through the years but there is no mistaking they are from the same family!
'Fred's On-line Project'

This particular Land Rover 90 drove in all the way from Denmark and it doesn't look too bad , but soon you will see what can be done to make this not only a rebuilt vehicle with a vastly extended life, but to bring it up to standards not available from even a new vehicle.
The following pages and information will show you how it's done the RPi way.

Land Rover Land Rover 'Attention To Detail'

It is important when undertaking this work to remove everything to discover the corrosion.
All these exposed areas will be properly repaired or new panels fitted. It seems this vehicle (like most) was more in need than the owner expected.

After removal of the door skins, extensive corrosion is revealed, It is this that makes a cheap restoration no more than a total waste of money.
New door skins will be fitted. All corroded areas & beyond will be removed and replaced with new pre-formed metal.
Land rover Doors

nice bits It's amazing what you can find when stripping out a vehicle. Old coins, dog snacks, flints, sand and lots of rust.

All the pictures on this page, show the extent of stripping out that is required to achieve a good and proper job. It is no good covering over those rusty bits or putting masking tape everywhere. If it's worth doing, its worth doing properly.
Getting ready for the Paint shop.
The engine and transmission have now been removed and many of the larger trim items and components remaining under the bonnet have also been removed. Only then is it time to go into the paint shop for all interior, under bonnet and body painwork to begin.
Also with this Land Rover the roof was removed to make further repairs and paint it off the vehicle.

1. The engine is removed, most of the engine bay components have been removed to prepare for painting. along with all body glass and trim.
2. Although the tailgate is being re-skinned, the interior frame was corroded and repaired with new metal, going far beyond the original areas of corrosion to ensure it does not return.
3. The interior has now been fully stripped. Floor panels, bonnet & doors were removed and any corrosion taken care of before preparation for painting.

LR 90 Now it's been almost completely stripped it's time to take it to the paint shop.
Take a good look, it's the last time you will see it looking like this.
A complete color change is part of the story, and I guarantee it will be quite a transformation.

It's A complete change of color

That blue color sure looks good!

Back form the spray shop it's time to fit that nice new Rebuilt RPi 3.9 V8 Engine, and with Weber carb and Mallory ignition, you can be sure this one will have what it takes.

You have missed out on many stages of this extensive rebuild which I hope to add later.

{short description of image} With a white roof, & powder coated wheels, it's all too soon time for home.
Can we be sure this is the same vehicle?

Back to Denmark the customer sends his best wishes.
Dear Chris
The car is driving perfectly and I am still very exited about my 'new car'. In the hope that you will have a merry Christmas and a happy new year. Regards
Jan from Copenhagen
